I have close to 20 years experience working and consulting with families and agencies for both domestic and international adoptions. I have had the unique opportunity to travel internationally to visit care centers and provide domestic training on attachment, bonding, trauma, grief and loss. If you are considering adoption or already on your journey, I am here to support you.

Pre-adoption Counseling
The decision to adopt can be a difficult one. It is often associated with feelings of gains and losses. In addition to the emotional journey that has brought you here, parents must also decide what type of adoption is right for their family. I provide counseling and consultation in helping parents as they explore their options of infant or older-child adoption, as well as domestic or international adoption. If adoption is right for you, I can help you navigate the various aspects, including choosing an agency, the home study process and what to expect during travel and post adoption placement.

Throughout the Process
The “wait” during an adoption journey can feel like a lifetime. There are still so many fears and “what ifs,” and the waiting parent may feel they have no control. But you are wrong; there are things you can control during the “wait”. Whether an infant or an older-child adoption, there are things you can do to feel better prepared. I provide consultation on understanding the hard place your child is coming from and strategies to prepare and ease the transition.

Post Adoption
Parenting is not always easy, and it can feel insurmountable when you or your child is struggling to bond. I have been trained in TBRI (trust-based relational intervention) as well as CPRT (child parent relationship therapy), both clinically proven approaches to help with parent and child attachment. I also have significant training in trauma therapy.
Adoption is not a one-time event rather a lifelong commitment. As your child reaches different developmental milestones, new things may arise. Whether trying to navigate the school system to meet their developmental need or struggling to help your child understand and accept his or her story, I am here to help.
